The Ideal King and Warrior (after the Epic Poem “Beowulf”)
Ось уже сотні років поспіль предметом захоплення сучасних людей були, є і будуть героїчні постаті далекого минулого . Цікавим прикладом цього є воїн Беовульф з англосаксонської епічної поеми «Беовульф».
Метою даної статті є характеристика ідеального царя і воїна.
Для досягнення мети дослідження ми повинні вирішити наступні завдання:
1) обговорити подібності та відмінності в концепції герочного епосу англо-саксонських часів і сучасності.
2) проаналізувати подібності та відмінності двох епічних героїв: Беовульфа і Артура.
3) дослідити, якими якостями Беовульфа найбільше захоплюється його тогочасне суспільство.
From scops to bards and from books to comics, people’s fascination with heroic figures has never waned over the hundreds of years. An interesting example of this is the Beowulf of the epic poem “Beowulf”.
The aim of the essay is to discuss the ideal king and warrior.
To achieve the objective of the study we should solve following problems:
1) To discuss the similarities and differences in the concept of the heroin Anglo-Saxon times and today.
2) To analyze similarities and differences in the two epic heroes: Beowulf and Arthur.
3) To consider what qualities are most admired by Beowulf’s society.
Every culture has heroes. In works of literature, is an individual to be admired and emulated, and because of this he is the embodiment of the greatest virtues of the culture that created him. The ideals of every culture were shaped by the social conditions of the time and therefore different attributes became valued. To different degrees, the hero in a work is a result of not only the culture from which the hero comes, but also the culture of the author. Cultural values are reflected in both the actions of a hero and his motivations.
